Wade Sahmel uses a second round 24 to capture the title in Ft. Worth The Texas Putting Tour held its ninth event of the 2005 season at the Ft. Worth-Westside course. After the first round it looked like it was going to be a tough day. Not a single Pro was able to break 30 and Gary Reed and Joel Baker were tied for the lead with Steve Tanton sitting one stroke back. The Pro-stroke average for the round of 32.30 was the highest single round average this year. The Pro’s started to get a feel for the course in the second round with Wade Sahmel leading the way with a blistering 12 under 24. Lee Messinger was close behind a 9 under 27. Two other Pro’s were also able to break 30 in the second round and the stroke average for the round dropped to a 30. The great round by Wade put him in at 15 under 57 and holding a two stroke lead over Gary Reed with Lee Messinger three in back of Wade. Kenny Beck and Steve Tanton were tied four back. A solid last nine of 9 under 27 by Wade gave him a 24 under 84 total and sealed the win. Lee matched the 9 under 27 to take second place. Gary Reed finished in third place and took the automatic state spot. Additional Spots went Kenny Beck and Joel Baker in match play competition. The amateur division saw Danny Hole dominate play from start to finish. He was the only player to break 30 in all three rounds. His opening round 9 under 27 gave him the lead and he increased it in every round. His final total of 23 under 85 gave him a ten stroke win and his first state spot of the year. David Chisum finished in second two ahead of Mike Huckaby in third. Additional state spots went to Mike Huckaby and Rob Martin in match play competition.
